Our path to creating a disability-inclusive culture relies on our shared commitment to fostering global values of inclusion, belonging, and access. The Office of Inclusion and Equity is proud to host Haben Girma — the first deafblind graduate of Harvard Law School and disability rights advocate. Often ignored in discourses on diversity and inclusion, Haben, in conversation with Monroe France, Senior Associate Vice President for Global Engagement and Inclusive Leadership at NYU, will explore the ways that ableism has obstructed the invaluable potential of one billion people worldwide, impeding our global opportunity for innovation. This discussion will address crucial themes in disability inclusion including the importance of agency and advocacy, the intersection of class, race, gender, and disability, and the value of integrating access within our global structures.

This event is in collaboration with the Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World, the NYUAD Division of Student Affairs, and the NYU Office of Global Inclusion, Diversity, and Strategic Innovation.
